I am sure I can't be the only one who has been spending a lot of time with their streaming platforms recently. Especially the time right after Norway went into lockdown, I spent a good amount of time catching up on what I knew was out there that I hadn't yet been able to see. I thought I would share some of my favorites with you in case you need some inspiration on new things to watch!
HUNTERS I never knew I wanted to see Al Pacino as a Nazi hunter, but appearantly I've waited all my life for it. This show was an absolute delight to watch. The style can remind of a Tarantino movie, the storyline is original - and the cinematography is to die for. I hope you watch this!
CALIPHATE This is the first show in year I can say I literally binge-watched. I could not stop watching this, and finished it all in 1 day. Caliphate tells the story of radicalization of islamic girls in Sweden. The actors do a terrific job, the characters are very well written, and every episode leaves you on the edge of your seat. You don't like watching things that's not in English since that's not your first language? Tough cookie, watch it anyway. Don't be lazy, subtitles exist. You don't want to miss this!
COLONY This show has been recommended to me so many times. Finally I crumbled - and I was pleasantly surprised! Colony tells the story of a family living in a Los Angeles that is being occupied by aliens. The city is separated into blocs by huge walls placed there by the invaders, and the first season shows us a family working to reunite with one of the kids in the family. It's action-filled, but it's very human.
KILLING EVE I was so happy when a new season of Killing Eve arrived to HBO. Killing Eve is a story of two powerful ladies, one a hitman, the other the detective hunting for said hitman. When their paths intertwine an obsession evolves and makes both of their lives much harder. Sandra Oh is always wonderful to watch, and Jodie Comer is a delight to see as the heartless killer.
DIRTY JOHN The fact that this show is based on a true story makes my skin crawl. It tells the tale of a woman who falls in love with a man who everyone around her can see is poison, but blinded by love, she gets herself into way more trouble than she thought possible. This was heartwrenching to watch, but very interesting to see how these master manipulators work themselves into someones life and leeches of the love of another person. I definitely recommend this!
NEVER HAVE I EVER This was an absolute blast to watch. If you're in the mood for something simple and cute, this is it. It tells the story of Devi, a Tamil Indian American high schooler who is dead set on becoming everything she's not. The show suprised me multiple times, and even though it has it's over-the-top moments, there was a lot of heart in it. Definitely recommend!
DEAD TO ME This show surprised me. You know those awful trailers or clips Netflix shows you to preview the show? This show had such a horrible preview I wrote it off for a long time. Thankfully I dared to try it out on a day I was especially bored - it turned out to be such a delight! Jen's husband has recently died in a car accident, and to cope with her grief she goes to a therapy group where she meets Judy. The two form a close friendship - but is Judy who she claims to be? Funny, quirky show with some good plot twists. Another light one for the days you need entertainment but don't feel like something too intense.
That's some of my tips for now - if this continues much longer I'm sure there will be an even longer list coming. What about you, have you discovered something new during this lockdown? I'd love to hear your recommendations!
